We are currently seeking a Surveyor Manager for our transportation work on the Wasena Bridge Project in Roanoke, VA .

The Survey Engineer will supervise construction survey crew responsible for providing horizontal & vertical control, derived from contract plans & documents, to field production operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects; participates in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, resident engineers, and contractor representatives.

• Gathers field survey data through use of conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods; sets up, adjusts, and operates surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, in order to measure distances, elevations, and angles; prepares field notes and drawings; performs field surveying for roadway, bridges and other infrastructure projects. Including installing surveying construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines.

• Performs complex surveying calculations using engineering calculator, laptop computer, personal computer, and graphics software, such as AutoCAD; analyzes raw data for mathematical closure and geometric accuracy and prepares finished grade sheets, topographic maps and other survey report

• Assists in construction, design, topographic, and all types of control surveys.

• Assumes responsibility for the company survey equipment and oversees equipment maintenance and inventory.

• Produces accurate detailed maps with accurate surveying data in a timely manner.

• Sets up, operates and adjusts all types of survey equipment, including a level, transit and electronic measuring device.

• Makes trigonometric calculations, such as adjusting traverses and calculation of coordinates, control points, quantities and areas.

• Trains other crew members on the latest technology in surveying equipment and finds new and innovative ways of doing surveys

QUALIFICATIONS

• 4-year degree in construction, engineering or other related field of study, or 10 years of survey construction staking experience required

• Trimble Business Center experience is a plus

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

• Must have two (2) to five (5) years of experience in the construction/industrial field with some management experience.
• Class B CDL is preferred, but not required.

Position Overview:

The Millwright Supervisor will manage the day-to-day activities of a team of Millwrights and is responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of millwright performed at the assigned location.

• Responsible for the supervision of a crew that works on the operation of large industrial equipment such as power generators, turbines, mining devices, assembly line machinery, and machinist tools.

Our Quality Department team members provide industry-leading expertise and advice in Building Enclosure and MEP Systems, lead the quality process and are a valuable resource to our project teams. A typical week for a Quality Engineer may include the following:

• Assisting the team in quality program development and facilitation
• Running preinstallation meetings with our trade partners
• Walking a jobsite to evaluate construction work in-place
• Writing quality observation reports following a site visit
• Performing a constructability review for a future project
• Developing a job specific quality plan with a project team

The quality engineer is always on the go and generally sets their own schedule, typically managing the quality process for several projects at a time.

Our quality team members attend 4-5 national conferences or training events every year to develop their knowledge and maintain their credentials. Pepper’s Quality Department leads quarterly internal training for our project managers and superintendents to keep our quality culture fresh and present the details of a technical topic.

The ideal Quality Engineer is a sharp, curious, problem-solver and an excellent communicator. They are interested in the details of construction and seek to understand the best way to put things together. The Quality Engineer serves as a resource to the project team in the areas of project delivery, constructability, workflow and sequencing, and proper installation techniques.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist Project Teams: Leads Project Teams in developing the Job Specific Quality Plan. Reviews Construction Documents, Specifications, Shop Drawings, and Submittals with the intent to identify challenges and opportunities.
• Assist Trade Partners: Leads project Quality pre-installation meetings with Trade Partners. Works with subcontractors to develop and implement Trade Partner Job Specific Quality Plans.
• Conduct Quality Site Visits: Reviews and documents work in the field. Photographs and discusses work in place with the project team. Writes reports for each site visit, providing directions and suggestions to correct improper work-in-place.
• Assist in Preconstruction: Conducts constructability reviews of future jobs to identify risks and incorporate lessons learned and best practices before construction starts.
• Education & Growth: Participates in education and growth opportunities to remain relevant and aware of current trends affecting construction and quality. Attend industry events in the local area and out of town events four to five times a year. Past conferences have included organizations such as Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA), International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC), World of Concrete, American Contractors Insurance Group (ACIG), Construction Specifiers Institute (CSI), Building Enclosure Science and Technology (BEST), and more.
• Expertise: The Quality Engineer will have a general understanding of all elements of construction but will develop focused expertise in building enclosure, concrete, metal stud framing and drywall, flooring, and life safety systems.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
• Experience: Knowledge of or experience with construction such as building enclosures, concrete, drywall framing, life safety, or flooring are a plus. Must possess a desire to be mentored in the construction industry.
• Certifications: Building Enclosure Certifications such as Registered Roof Observer (RRO), Registered Exterior Wall Observer (REWO), Certified Air Barrier Specialist (CABS) are a plus. Concrete certifications from ACI are a plus.
• Attributes: Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong curiosity for how systems operate together. Always maintains a calm demeanor. Able to explain things clearly both verbally and in writing. Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Travel: Able to travel throughout Central Indiana but will typically be home every night. Pepper will provide a company vehicle or stipend for local travel. Overnight travel is required 4-5 times per year for conferences.
• Physical Requirements: Must be able to visit and work within an active multi-level construction site, including the use of ladders, scaffolds, and lifts. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time when necessary. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment for several hours per day.
• Schedule: Daily work schedule is typically between 8AM – 5PM.
